Biography:
Dobby is a house-elf appearing in the Harry Potter film series. He is first introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), where he attempts to prevent Harry from returning to Hogwarts due to the dangers he foresees.
Dobby serves the Malfoy family, who treat him cruelly. He longs for freedom but is bound by house-elf magic to obey his masters until they present him with clothes.
Harry Potter tricks Lucius Malfoy into freeing Dobby by slipping a sock into Tom Riddle's diary, which Lucius then gives to Dobby. Dobby is overjoyed and becomes fiercely loyal to Harry, often coming to his aid, sometimes with unintended consequences.
Dobby tragically dies during the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010), sacrificing himself to save Harry and his friends from Death Eaters.
